Hi All,

We need to put a message on our answer phone, but as its also the home number we need to have a message that covers the business and home. Just wondered what everyone else did, we want to make it professionl etc so not sure what to do?

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks

Kate

Hi Kate,

Just concentrate on the business which is much more important than personnel stuff. We have something like "Thank you for calling xyz. We are unable to take your call at the moment. Please leave a message after the tone and we will call you back as soon as possible"

We have a freephone number which diverts to the home number. If we wanted to we can easily change the divert to a mobile should we go away.

We got the freephone number via
http://www.planet-numbers.co.uk/

Family and friends are told to call us on our mobiles as we never answer the home/work phone after 6pm or at the weekends.

Hi,
For what it cost i had another line put in, so one is used for all business and the other for personal. improvisation could be as Dave says, get a NGN and direct it at a mobile. That will give you all the quality you need on line and using their answer machine, you can use your landline to phone back customers and the mobile can be just a cheap pay as you go..... and just don't pay - be careful what they will charge you to a mobile from an NGN though!! I don't have that trouble fortunately

Hey Dave me old fruit cake..... what answer machine do you use. I bought 2 x BT response 75 digitals but the quality of the voice over is naf, I sound as if I am sat on an electric metal plate and speaking from planet Gog - now I know you are going to be tempted in coming back with some choice comments..... but i know you are better than that - rumour has it..... just wondered if good old tape is best or am I just being to cheap............ in my purchases, so to speak

Hi Mike,

We currently have a BT Synergy 3500 combined answer machine/cordless phone. Had no problems with it and the clarity of the messages recorded is pretty good.

However, am currently considering changing to something a bit more funky with an extra handset. Been looking at this in John Lewis (it is reduced by £30)

With regards to you being from planet Gog....No Comment :D

Hi Kate

We have a second line for the business, like Mike, and we use the BT Answer service (a couple of quid a month, I think) and record our message on there - no need for an answerphone!

If you are going to keep the home line for business, then I'd go with Dave, and have your message say something like "Thank you for calling Fat Banana Feet..." (and if you can say that without giggling, you've done well). Any personal callers will understand.

Regards

Pete
