View Full Version : Heads up - Royal Mail strike this week
Many of you may already be aware of this from some of the news reports, but in case you don't:
There is due to be a strike by Royal Mail workers end of this week, Friday and Saturday. Not sure if is all staff, but does include the delivery people / postman.
Have just been given the heads up/ warning by our postman as he dropped off our mail this morning, says (as of today) the strike is going ahead, so that basically anything sent out from Thursday onwards will get caught up, and as goes into the weekend and the backlog created will mean pretty much a week of delays etc.
Would of course be great if negotiations over next couple of days can avoid it - but if you're able to put any other plans into place, suggest you do.
Regards,
Hi
I did know about the postal strike and have been silently fuming! These strikers are hurting most the only hope for the postal service - small businesses who rely on them to get goods to customers. Let's face it normal post is in decline because of email and that is not going to change, so they need us with our parcels more than they seem to realise. (rant over )
I would love to find an alternative but when I have looked previously I have found that courier costs are too high by comparison with post to make it viable especially as I offer free UK delivery. But if things have changed and anyone knows of a good small packet and parcel service that does not cost an arm and a leg I am ready to change.
Angry from Cornwall signing off :)
I've just heard on the news that there is going to be another postal strike affecting several regions. No details given on date or exact area. Thanks BBC.

damn Royal mail - if they aren't happy with their work get another job! :P lol
The story about new postal strikes on the bbc has now been updated to include info on what is affected and when:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8186922.stm
Starts tomorrow - Friday in some areas, with other affected on different days through to next Tuesday. But as some pretty big distribution centres (eg London) are affected, and will have flow on delays for everyone.
The workers are just digging themselves a bigger hole though - these strikes are just forcing people to move more mail away from them. I know with each strike I change a few more bills etc away from paper and using the post to online, and paying online too - because know my cheque is about to be delayed in strike. The idiots guide to how to make your own job redundant!

Thanks for that... the Beeb news when I heard it was v. sparse. I agree that this is death wish activity on the part of the postal workers. I hardly use the post now for anything other an the business parcel deliveries and if I could find an affordable alternative I would take that away as well. They should understand people do not like being held to ransome and they are making no friends at all. ( Rant over - but it felt good to let off some steam)

Funniest thing is they go on strike for a couple of days, then get back to work to find a huge pile of undelivered stuff on their desks hahahaha. No-one will do their job in their absence. Bet they feel like right muppets on their return to work.
