Anybody get fed up with all this Spam being posted? It's a real pain the in ass especially when you are looking for post's to help people and contribute to other threads without having to wade through the crap!

You would think some people had better things to do.

Having started a poll to see what people think about making the forum closed.

Thanks Mike, that has given me a good laugh this morning.

See someone has voted no in the poll. Must be the spammer :D

BIG yes from me, this is a really great forum for Blue Park users, perhaps we can lock this down only to people who have a live Blue Park website?

I can see that the forum is good promotion for Bluepark. Also it is frustrating having to limit content of posts as visible to customers and competitors who may show an interest. I am now considering removing links & name in signature.
There has been debate about totally closed forum but I recognise the tension of points above.
My view: don't allow unvetted new posts/members.
If this task is a bit time consuming for Bluepark (not a dig there as it would seem that Bluepark spend their time on very fast customer support & development which we all benefit from) then get some established members to be moderators???

ooooooh yes.... put me and Dave as moderators, we will be kind, gentle and diplomatic in our approach.

Also to point out that in the time I have been with Bluepark we rarely get anyone coming on from outside so to speak, its mainly spam merchants trying to get their wares or links on......:(

Sounds like a great idea to me. Not sure whether Bluepark would think the same :)

Might be entertaining though

think instead of vetting could it not be set so that they can only post in a certain area? so untill they have x amount of posts they can only post in say the "any other business" area of the site?

then atleast if they are wasting time it would be only in one area and able to be removed by moderators?

just a thought :)

Would this not increase the SPAM as they attempted to get the requisite number of posts?

But to answer the original question. My answer is YES.... lock the spammers out.

In theory it would be say a ten post threshold, and by the 3rd or 4th you would see that they are spamming and remove them.

I have a lot of experience with spammers and forums, through my son in Germany we set one up for my daughter to do with albinism on her website (http://www.knowlton-family.co.uk/Albinism/bianca.htm) very basic site site as I set this up in 2001 to make people more aware and to help families distressed in finding they have a child with albinism, nothy has changed much over the years but we dis add the forum a couple or so year ago. It was great for a while untill the spammers got hold of it along with the porn merchants. It was a nightmare and I had to monitor it 24/7 as kids use it as well as adults.

We have to keep it open for obvious reasons but if I could I would close it as some of the postings can be very distastful. Unless you can see any benefits or more to the point, usage over the past years form guests, I would close it because once they get hold of a forum, word spreads like wildfire through that side of the market as they are just looking for links mainly - when it got hold, between my son and myself, we where deleting anything between 300 and 1400 per day - we reduced that by visual registration but still have to delete the scrotums that do it manually (students, etc., for pennies)- unfortunately as you will see the forum is not used much these days for obvious reason which is a shame, a sign of the times.

Hi Mike,

Great wedding photos and Bianca looked beautiful on her big day. Remember speaking to you about a week before the wedding and you were running around like a headless chicken!

Hope you all had a great day
