Hey All,

I have a company keep ringing me called itscoldoutside telling me the usual thing about seo, links etc.

here is what they say they can do!!!!

" At the moment your website is optimised quite well for the search terms that you would like to appear for and as a result of this you do appear on the first page or quite close to it!
We would like to provide you with 500 relevant anchor text links tailored to you within 3 months.
This will enhance your positions on Google, it is clearly links because the ones you are on the 1st page for they aren’t high enough and you are in the top ten pages.
The links will work on the content throughout the site not just the search terms that we take off you for the relevancy!"

They offer this at £199 (It was £299 last week!!!) set up and £100 a month on a 3 month contract.

We appear on page 1 or 2 on google anyway but are always looking for improvement and i keep reading about link building so there must be something to the whole link thing.

Just wondered what other people think.

Stuart

Hi

Personally I would not accept the offer.

I would steer clear of anything wanting to lock you in to a contract. It's hard work but you would be better off spending time building links for yourself. With something like this you don't know where the links are going to come from or how this may effect your rankings in a negative way.

Google their name and keep your money in your pocket.

In particular this proves interesting reading

A lot of SEO work you can do yourself if you have time. It will save you a lot of money.

...and i keep reading about link building...

I got a company in India to build links for a period of 10 weeks. Just started, so I cannot tell you if it will work for me or not.

As all of them, they promissed "quality" links and so on. We'll see.:(

But just for the record: I am the one that contacted them.

Hey All,

... itscoldoutside telling me the usual thing about seo, links etc..

Keep your money in your pocket! We tried them when we were new and green and before we found this Forum. They did no more for us than we had already done ourselves. Nice Guys tho'.

Honestly you can't do better than follow this Forum's advice in previous threads on SEO (I wish I had done earlier, it would have save me a fortune!! )

Stay far, far away. There are many complaints on the UK Business Forums about it's cold outside, so I would be really careful. Here's an example (out of many threads) on UKBF: http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=98143

These people are pests - they kept ringing us on a weekly basis despite us asking to be taken off their calling list every time they rang. In the end, we told them (true) that we are registered with the Corporate TPS service, and we never heard from them again :)

I'm another one with a warning to stay clear of them! Their reputation goes before them and they are a real pain constantly telephoning.

What products are these and for which search term? Getting products to the top of google is easy for the not so popular terms. Also how do you know this software did it - you are a fairly new site and Blue Park is very SEO Friendly.

What i want is the top for the major search terms, if it can do that i wwould be tempted. I have always been wary of these programs tho.

hmmm..

both our main pages are resulting at 95% on the seo tool...

most of the smaller products are ranked higher in google yes...

The IBP software points you in the right direction as to what to have on your keywords etc and it gets the top ten sites in your category and compares them to yours giving advice on how to equal or beat them.

Another voice to warn to absolutely avoid its cold outside. Their cold calling is beyond a nuisance, as others have said their bad reputation proceeds them, and basically its a scam. Early on I once actually listened to their bs for a bit, and they lie top you and don't really know what they are on about. They really try to play the 'we work with Google' card, which is rubbish.

Google have made it quite clear what their policy on paid links is, which is all the Its cold outside is offering. I also know that at least a few people have complained direct to Google about Its Cold Outside, so I'd expect that Google are actually ignoring most of the links they create anyway.

It's quality of link, not quantity that you want.

A suggestion, if you get a call from them again, tell them you're eager to sign up as have been looking for a decent link building service, and that you will start with them just as soon as they provide written confirmation from Matt Cutts of Google that their service is legitimate in the eyes of Google (Matt Cutts heads Google's anti spam team).

I totally agree with all the comments made and would suggest you avoid this company like the plague. Bluepark is very SEO friendly and with software to help you such as IBP if you have the time then you can acheive the same results yourself.

However, if time is limited then go with someone that's highly rated. Giles @ *********** has done some fabulous makeovers on Bluepark sites and comes highly recommended by many people on the forum. I know Giles also does SEO work so would suggest you contact him to discuss your requirements and based on your chat with him then decide on what you think is the best way forward for you and your company.

Hi

I am diving in again to second Lewey and Dave. It really is quality not quantity that counts with links and Giles is great - his work is bril and you can trust him... unlike this mob who keep calling you. And also as already said BluePark is very SEO friendly - so stick with BP and your friends here and you can't go far wrong.

Dave,

Do you use the IBP programme then, you seem to like your 'toys'?

I had a look at it after Adam mentioned it, searched google, etc, but have not seen any hard evidence it works.

Hi Neil,

We have tinkered with IBP before and thought it was very good. However, when we lost our crap windows machines we changed to Apple Mac's and it is not compatible with Apple.

I know people who have used IBP before and swear by it and not at it. There is a free download available on their website
http://www.ibusinesspromoter.com/

It is very good for comparing your site's positions in search engines for keywords, comparing these against your competitors and seeing how your rankings have changed.

At the end of the day it is a tool to help in the promotion of your website and should be used along with other tools and marketing to boost your website presence.

Neil We have been using it since we started the site up 2 months ago, its a very helpful bit of software, as it tells you how to increase your keywords etc against the top 10 rivals etc.
we have the full business software... found that the free download didnt give very good out puts/ accurate out puts.

I used them once in a previous business - total waste of money.

they create worthless links to your site, and google spot it a mile off and this could even black list you with google and once this happens you will be de-listed. google has never in its history as fair as I know relisted a de-listed website

WhiteRabbit

Actually Google blacklisted BMW.de for hidden text and doorway pages and then relisted it again just 2 days afterwards...however it's unlikely most companies that don't have the clout of BMW would be relisted, and certainly nowhere near as quickly.

I find the best way to build links back is in forum signatures - make sure it links your 'key words' and also blogs. The choices are Blogger, Wordpress, Opera (which google loves) and plenty of others as part of social forums like Facebook, Linked In and Ecademy.

It's a lot of hard work, but it's better than paying out all the money. If you set blogger up correctly it will copy to facebook, ecademy and linked in. Probably some others too. Just make sure again that you link 'key words'.

To avoid problems with the volume of blogging, make sure all posts are informative content aimed at a readership level. If possible, it should be like an extension of your website. You can see an example in our Green East Blog (http://greeneastltd.wordpress.com)

This is a useful thread in more ways than one.
Not only was I thinking about buying that IBP software and also creating some blog links, which I'd previously been meaning to get around to for months, the link to Kay's blog has also given me an alternative spelling for loofah.

There aren't many website forums around that can inform you on both SEO and the background of that weird item that can sometimes be found on a bath tray!

...and on the topic of SEO telesales, last year I had long conversations with one that was based in Cornwall, apparently. Quite unusual, I thought, being an ex-Devon boy myself. Nearly went with them, too, until I googled the usual "are XXXXX any good?" query.
Sure enough, instantly found an angry client who also pointed out that they were, in fact, based in and cold-calling from Thailand.
No big deal where someone is based, as long as the job gets done - but the deception was an unnecessary and fatal error as far as I was concerned.

Just out of interest Dave,
now that you have gone MAC, what SEO programs do you use?

At the moment we are not using anything. There is very little out there for Mac compared to windows but these people specialize in Mac SEO software

http://www.ragesw.com/index.php

We need to try their software and then decide whether to us it or use IBP on a netbook or cheap windows PC

I've had a little search today for SEO software and found this for MAC users as well as PC:

SEO powersuite

http://www.link-assistant.com/download.html (free Trial)

not sure whether its any good but as dave isnt using anything at the mo (and as ive seen from previous posts) likes his 'toys', you MAC users out there may want to take a peak.

Hi All

I'm considering some SEO software atm and wondered if anyone had any additional pointers since the last post.
I'm also using a MAC, but have a Windows PC too. I'm tempted by the IBP after reading the posts on it, but i'd want some results with the price.

Any info anybody wants to share would be great? Is anyone using IBP and seeing results?

My vote is for SEO MOZ it will cost you $99 a month, but you get a lot of tools as well as tips on how to improve your ranking!

I have a simple method that seems to deal with these empty promises. I ask them to wait and then type into google 'SEO' . When their company does not appear in the top 3 i ask them why they cant do it for themselves but they can for me?
