How useful is this.

Obviously there are links from this forum as my signature has the site name in there.

but i cant seem to work out if it will actually help, we cant put links on other site or contact companies to put links on as they are our competion and that isnt going to happen.

we have facebook so links from there and we have a twitter page so links there.

how have other people used them???

and how useful do you find them???

Thanks,

Adam

Well according to the IBP program newsletter its one of the most important factors that influence the position of your website on google.

Personally i believe its the quality of the links and not the quantity.

Have you tried getting a link from your suppliers sites? Also what about other forums such as moneysavingexpert.

Regards

Neil

like your thinking about suppliers sites.... will look into that. it is really the only possilbe way to do it as our competitors would just give us the bird lol

How about getting good quality links from simular sites in different english speaking countries? For example USA as although you might look like competitors unless you both export you are never really competing against each other.

Also how about links from sites in the UK which sell Mobility stuff but don't directly compete with you for example Mobility Scooters?

With links quality is always better than quantity, 100 posts on this forum with the same footer link isn't much better than say 10 - watch how Gillf does it - always changing the keywords in the footer and using different links, this will help.

Links from other countries are also worth less than links from your own country - be careful not to get just links from say the USA or Google could class you as a US site and not show you in Google UK (yes this has happened)

Hi, I can strongly recommend Neils suggestion regarding supplier links, it takes a lot of persistence to get your name on their websites sometimes, took us 4 years of constant nagging!, but the sales generated from them will prove worthwhile!.

Hi everyone,

Yes, quality links rather than quantity. High page rank and relevant. Not mentioned here is the possibility of putting links in online articles and press releases. Also don't forget directories. Google likes directories as long as they are human edited. Best way to check out links that work is go on to Alexa and enter the URL of your competition sites that rank well, then in all the detail you will find the links they have. Sneaky I know.... but all is fair etc.
