This is an enhancement request.

Would it be possible to identify Northern Ireland as separate from Ireland (Eire) in the Shpping Manager? When we ship large items to Nothern Ireland, the costs are almost twice that of Eire, and three times that of mainland UK, so I'd like to be able to set up a different shipping band for NI.

This can be looked at, but of course it has fairly wide implications.

We're really talking about the country list, which currently only has the UK. The main point is that you have to get the customer to select the correct country, which would mean splitting the UK into various sections.

I'm not sure how we'd tackle this without disturbing the system already in place, it would probably need to be optional. I'd be interested to hear the "majority" view.

We would also find it useful to be able to separate out parts of the UK in the shipping manager. Northern Ireland, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Highlands of Scotland and Isles of Scilly are considerably more expensive to send parcels to (with a courier) than the rest of the UK.

I guess that properly separating out the UK into different shipping areas is probably quite complex and would require some kind of way of matching postcode areas to shipping zones with an address look-up system?

At the moment, we've created a separate shipping option for Channel Islands but this relies on customers to correctly select their countries as Jersey or Guernsey. Most don't as they just see the UK option and select this, then complain because we've charged them VAT!! Perhaps relabelling the UK options as UK - Mainland, UK - Jersey, UK -Guernsey etc. so anyone in the UK who goes to select that option as a country would see the other options next to each other in the alphabetical list and hopefully pick the right one!

For the other more expensive UK shipping areas (NI, IOM etc), at the moment we just leave them banded with the UK shipping option and absorb the extra cost of shipping if necessary.
