ive also successfully uploaded a csv product file via ftp to the fiel manager but cannot work out how to link the contents to create products from the file manager.

Hi Paul

Not entirely sure if I understand your problem, but to create products from a csv file, you need to use the Catalogue/Import Product Data option. Make sure that you have matched the fields in the csv to the column layout which you can see if you go into one of the import records. You can tell the system to ignore some columns, if you are not using them, or just leave the columns blank.

Hope that helps

Pete

thanks for the reply petad. im talking about an ftp'd file. i created the csv file to match the existing fields for the 'complete import' which exists in the demo/beta. But the ftp'd file does not appear to have associated itself with anything. i can see the file via the file manager.

as i said ive done it okay via the browser upload but would like to be able to perform this via ftp

Importing products is done via Catalogue -> Import Product Data. Create a CSV file and map the fields in the import template to match your sheet (set any fields you're not using to Ignore).

The CSV file should be on your own PC, it is uploaded and imported in one operation. You cannot import a CSV file from your webspace. It may be a large file, but we've imported product databases of over 20,000 products this way without any problems.

The images should, of course, be uploaded via FTP. The filenames will need to be linked inside the CSV file.

I would particularly recommend referring to the New User Guide in the Help menu as it will be of assistance for this procedure.

thanks. now i understand. its really just the image files which need to be uploaded via ftp with the csv file uploaded via the browser.
