Hi Adam,

Don't have one and don't use them. Not got a clue if they are of any use so basically I am not being very helpful :)

I think Nadine is probably your best bet on this one as she is the twitter, facebook and blog queen.

Absolutely. I really could do with some advice but have no where to post for it without it being read!

Good point. Has the recent upgrade to our lovely forums made it any easier to provide a BP user only forum, I wonder?

It's always been possible to have a closed forum section. Many other forums have this and run the same software so it should be quite simple to setup and have

Bluepark Technical Discussion
eCommerce, Marketing and Search Engines
General Discussion: Any Other Business

AND
Closed Forum: For Bluepark Subscribers Only

This would be ideal because anything we want to hide/discuss in private can be posted in the closed forum section but general day to day stuff can be posted as usual which will be of benefit to new, existing and potential Bluepark customers.

I agree - I see things like the PM Nadine has sent to Adam regarding social networking, and think this would be great for a wider audience, but understand the reasons why posting it in an open forum is undesirable. I'd also like to know more about the stalker - intriguing...

I support the idea of a closed forum to discuss matters we don't want competitors / customers reading. I think I've mentioned this before.

Don't think intriguing would be the word Nadine would use to describe the stalker. She could tell us more but the stalker would only read it. Where's the closed forum when you need it :)

I think a closed forum is a great idea too. I know there are some that already do it. There's a parenting one I used to lurk on a few years ago and they had a special locked section for parents that had sadly lost their children to have discussions away from the morbidly nosy public. You had to apply to be given access to it. Having said that, if someone really wanted to get access to a closed section, they could as there is no way of checking everyone is geniuine.

Well there is because Bluepark know who are using the package so only forum members who run sites using Bluepark would be given access to the closed forum section. I suppose someone could get around it if they signed up and paid the monthly fee and then canceled but it seems a lot of trouble to go through!

That's true! You would have to be really determined to poke around to do that.

Hi everyone... I too agree on the closed forum issue. It's looking like a landslide vote for it.

I'm afraid it would be a substantial job for us to administrate user access as people come and go, with the volume of sites that we host and also multiple forum users per site in some circumstances. There is also another aspect which Dave touched on last time this was mentioned (sorry Dave!):

http://www.bluepark.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?1564-Private-Section&p=8948#post8948

It would be nice to consider this at some point in the future, but it's not something we would be able to provide at the moment.

Looking into this new version of vBulletin, it appears that there is has a handy feature which may well do the job (community managed social groups). I'm looking into it and will post back here.

Thanks Rich - sorry to have caused all this but it would be a handy feature.

Another way round it could be as another forum I belong too. Basically you have to have a certain number of (relevant) posts before you can apply for membership. Therefore approvals are very sparodic as someone needs to be a regular poster before they can apply.

It is just another thought.

Thank you for continuing to look into it.

A new private discussion forum is now available and viewable only by registered users of Bluepark's software.

Access is granted by entering the user's Forum Username in the Admin Editor (you can access the Admin Editor via Users: Admin Manager in the Bluepark Admin Console). Private forum access is not available via evaluation sites.

The public forums are, of course, a valuable resource for both existing Bluepark users and also prospective users. For this reason, please continue to post non-private discussion threads in the public forums.

Thank you. :)

I thought it was possible to create a group of "users" so bp site users, then assign them to the forum in question?

i have been on forums where they have seperate Lad / Girl chat rooms so that obvious banter that could offend isnt seen etc.

I like the idea of the closed forum, would mean that ideas people have cant be stolen, or stalkers cant see certain things...

:)

You are way behind the game matey boy! The forum has been set up - see the instructions above on how to access it!

So what happens if your Admin user name & password are the same as your forum? are you automatically given access to the private forum? are there any threads on this new private forum? I can't see any sign of it.

The forum becomes visible if you link the account through your user panel.

Nah! doesn't work for me, it just puts me to a register page, if I try to fill it in it says I'm already registered!

Think I'll give it up!

John, don't click on the link below the Forum Username field. In the Admin Editor, put in "john" as your Forum Username and the password you use to log into the forums here. This will grant your "john" account access to the private forum.
