View Full Version : Associating freebies with an item?
Hi
I want to be able to sell a product, and give away a free item with it. In this case, I actually want to give away 4 Farmer Dan Tractor books when someone buys a Pedal Tractor.
Anyone know how to set up give-away items so that they will be put into the basket automatically when the main item is purchased?

Hi
I think the way you do this is by going to the addition manager and creating an addition (the freebie) click the selected by default check box and set the additional cost to zero.
Then in your product select the addition tab and from the drop down box select the addition (freebie product) that you have just created and then assign the addition.
When your customer clicks onto the product a check box (which will be ticked) with title of the addition shown below the product information. When that product is added to their basket the addition is added as well.
I'm don't know if this is the best way to do it but it was the first thing that came to mind. I know there are buy one get one free and other options but I haven't utilised these as yet.

Thanks Karen
This allows me to have a description of the free items associated with the main purchase, which is good. The only drawback is that it does not associate the main item with the actual freebie product record, so does not downgrade stock of the freebie.
Still, at least it give a description of the free item(s) on the dispatch note and invoice, which is the important bit.

Hi
Just looked into the discount manager side of things.
you can set up a discount that allows you to assign products to it so that a discount applies to "all in set" so you can assign your tractor and the books then set the discount threshold to a value and set the discount value to the price of the books.
when you go into the first product i.e. the tractor it brings up the other product in that group of products (ie the books) underneath and says buy this product and get a discount of x (the discount value set in the discount manager). So you are effectively getting the book for free.
The only draw back is that the customer would have to select both products but they would be displayed on the same page. but this method would solve the stock management issue.
hope this makes sense (probably not i've having a bad day!:()

Hi Karen
Sorry to hear about the bad day - getting a bit of relief answering forum queries? I'll give your suggestion a try tomorrow.
Thanks
Pete
Hi
yes, taking my mind off of it. My shop got broken into last night and they made a bit of a mess, which I can't clean up until forensics have been !
Just want to get straight, very frustrating and annoying.
Never mind could have been worse.
Hope the suggestion works, I'm sure Rich will be able to point you in the right direction.
Good Luck
Karen
That's really nasty. Hope you get cleared up soon, and that you were well insured.

Hi
Thanks, the police have done their forensics but they think they were wearing gloves but did get a partial footprint off the glass they kicked in. I'll finish the clean up tonight and tomorrow and hopefully be back to it.

I'm afraid there's no way to actually force the item to be added to the basket. However, Karen's suggestion looks like the next best thing.
By the way, I'm very sorry to hear about your predicament Karen. I hope the police find whoever is responsible.
Thanks Rich, hopefully the forensic will come up with a result. The ratbags stole my 5 year old sons tv which was at the shop as he's off school with the chicken pox. So he's very upset, so I really hope they catch them.
