Hi, I currently only use Paypal to accept payments from my site (along with cheque and postal order), does anyone know how to use Google Checkout as an alternative to Paypal as I know not everyone likes Paypal. Eventually I'll be looking at processing card payments on my site, but with it being a new shop i want to see how it goes first.

Morning John,

We use a mixture of Google Checkout & Protx to take payments on our site.

First thing you need to do (if not already done so) is to open a Google Checkout Account here
https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=sierra&continue=https%3A%2F%2Fcheckout.google.com%2F%3Fut m_campaign%3Dgaia_em%26utm_source%3Dus-en-et-my_accounts%26utm_medium%3Dlink%26hl%3Den-GB%26upgrade%3Dtrue&hl=en_GB&nui=1&ltmpl=default&gsessionid=H9HqNtJASRM

After this you need to setup Bluepark with the information given when you setup Google Checkout. You do this via home---->configuration----->payment

Google is a good alternative because even though the free processing expires shortly the fee will still only be 1.5% per transaction which is much less than many PSP. Also using Google Checkout can reduce your Google Adwords bill.

Setting up Google Checkout is very easy and I am sure people on here or Richard @ Bluepark can help if you run into problems.

Good Luck!

Regards,

Dave

In order to set up Google Checkout, select it as the main payment method first. Put in your details, then revert back to your regular payment processor. Google Checkout will be selectable as an optional payment method.

Also, please bear in mind that Google Checkout requires a "trusted" SSL certificate to function correctly (it's required for the callback). We supply those here:

I've just signed up to google checkout, and got it working fine, but I've selected to accept paypal too, but can't see where the customer chooses. If I make paypal ipn the defgault again, the google checkout box is unselectable.

In your case, PayPal IPN should be the default and Google Checkout should be selected as the optional payment method.

Google Checkout is selected in the Shopping Basket as it's a complete checkout replacement. Using the normal (Bluepark) checkout button will use your default payment processor, i.e. PayPal.

If Google Checkout isn't selectable as an option it's either not set up completely or SSL mode is not enabled. The tooltip on the selection box will tell you why it's greyed out.

I am in the throws of setting up Google Checkout which I plan to use alongside my off line PDQ payments as I have a merchant account.

Can I use Pay Pal Express Checkout as well ?

Hi Rich

Does the Thawte SSL certificate we already have cover us if we set up Google Checkout alongside our current PayPal Pro installation?

Pete

Hi Robin,

We use both paypal pro & google checkout on our Forest Bears website and it seems to work fine without any problems.

thanks Dave. I just did a basket on Forest Bears and see how it offers both checkouts in addition to the bluepark one.
As an aside I notice on your checkout just the delivery info is shown. I thought that was a bug on mine and was just about to fix. Is that usual, I though it would be show whole basket contents or summary at payment?

I have enabled Google Checkout now, but my bank account will not be verified for 3 or 4 days. Can customers use Google Checkout in the interim, or should I disable it until my bank account is verified with Google?

Robin,

I am not entirely sure what you are referring to and have lost me somewhat which I must admit is easy to do :)

Do you mean the products are not displaying in the shopping basket?

Morning Pete,

My understanding is customers can use it but you will not receive funds into your bank account until it has been verified but could be wrong ;)

That would be my guess too - just can't find any confirmation of it on the Google site, though the following probably confirms it:

"Please note that you will not receive any further payments from your Checkout account until the account verification process has been successfully completed even if you have verified your bank account. Your payments will resume within three to five business days of completing the verification process"

We use both Paypal and Google Checkout for payments and they both work very well.

However we had a GC transaction recently where the customer must have somehow changed her order whilst checking out through Google and the order got mixed up to the extent that she ordered and paid for 1 item on GC at £15.75 but it came through Bluepark as 3 items totalling £40 and was shown as paid.

My point is just to check that the amounts on GC and Bluepark correspond before shipping your goods (which we didn't do!) if using GC.

I'll start a new thread about my check out question
