Hello!
I am considering setting up a page, where each of my suppliers logos is shown, and when you click that it takes you to all the products they produce - a little bit like 'meet the maker' which some of my competitors are doing.
How's best to do this?
Do you think it makes me vulnerable to competition just contacting my suppliers or, may it help with SEO?
Thanks
James
James,
To your first question:
Each item on your website can be allocated to more than 1 product category.
Create “product groups organized by suppliers”, i.e. a product group for all items from supplier A, a product group for all items from supplier B.
Your second question about SEO:
You need “inbound links from relevant sides with a high page rank”. I.e., it is more important that your supplier links to you, not the way round.
Opinion: I you have a good story about a product, (how it’s been produced, the manufacturer’s credentials, any awards, etc....) put it on the product page. – it’s a much more powerful feature for a product sale. (also keeps your customer on your site, and doesn’t send him somewhere else for distraction or another shop.)
If you want “brand shops” – just do it with “house hold names” or a selection of the best names in your industry. i.e. the names Joe Bloggs would recognize (i.e. me).
