View Full Version : Google v Yahoo PPC
We currently advertise on Google Adwords and are also considering advertising on Yahoo. Does anyone have any expericence of using PPC on Yahoo and have any feedback they can give re conversion rates etc
I tried Yahoo a few years back and remember that you had to pay in advance and maintain a credit balance on the account. Google make the whole process so simple but I found it difficult to understand the workings on Yahoo.
When I cancelled the account I was unable to obtain any repayment of my credit amount.
I'll be interested to see if it's changed over the years.
Hi
I don't think it has changed that much. I used Yahoo UK and US initially but now only use the US but it is up for review because I don't think it brings in enough business to warrant the expense. Google is much better, easier to use/control/monitor.

Mike / Gill,
Many thanks for your replies it most appreciated.
I will have to think seriously about giving yahoo a try especially if you have to pre-pay and also have no chance of getting the unused monies back!
Even though Yahoo did make a big update to their PPC system from what it was a few years ago, it still doesn't come close to Google for ease of use. Am not sure, but think they still have their minimum £20 spend per month. The b*****ds operate on calendar month basis too, not a month from when you sign up. So be careful (i.e start at the beginning of calendar month, otherwise you have much less time to use your £20 minimum).
Volume of visits is much much less than from Google, but so far the cost per conversion has been quite a bit better than on Google - mainly due to less competitors using Yahoo, so don't have to bid so high. Also seems that Yahoo visitors do seem to convert a bit better in a general sense.
At the end of the day, its a matter of if it converts profitably for you.

People report mixed results, with some niches getting better conversion rates on Yahoo and some on Google (probably down to the demographic of the Users). My experience is Google is far superior to Yahoo in terms of level of traffic, quality of traffic and conversion.
