View Full Version : Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates
Thawte have notified us about a new EV SSL certificate www.thawte.com/freeguide/20080407/ (http://www.thawte.com/freeguide/20080407/) and this has raised a few questions:
i) Does Bluepark honour this higher standard for internet secure pages?
ii) What is the uptake and has anyone else comitted to changing to EV SSL?
iii) What happens if like us, we have only just paid for a normal SSL?
iiii) Would customers notice a difference?
Appreciate any feedback, positive or negative...

Hi Alec,
Welcome to the Bluepark Forum!
At the moment 2 things would put me off being a) the green address bar currently only works with IE 7 and b) $899 for one year is very expensive!
Also I can not find an update option so you would most likely have to either wait until your current certificate expires or just bite the bullet and buy the new improved certificate.
I doubt at the moment people would notice the difference anyway so it may just be worth sitting back and see how it progresses and hope the price comes down a bit as it becomes the norm.

At the moment we only offer the SSL123 variety, but there is no reason why we couldn't supply the EV version. We haven't offered it so far as the cost is so significantly higher. Personally, I don't think the benefits outweigh the costs - I suppose you need to ask whether a customer is more likely to order with one of these certificates in place. If there was enough demand for these certificates, we would certainly consider supplying them.
