I'm having a go at using the webmaster tools of Microsoft's Live Search and submitting data to their product feeds. It all looks like google so far but am having a problem getting it to validate our site. I have created the .xml file they ask for and put it into what I think is the root directory, but it still cannot validate. I think this may be the problem as I can only access the \user element and this file needs to be the root. Getting a bit techie this, but has anyone any clues?

Thanks

Sorry Jonathan - I've not tried to do this yet. I suggest asking Rich to verify that you have placed the file in the root directory, or ask him to do so for you.

I would be interested in feedback on how you get on, and whether it is worthwhile?

Regards

Pete

Morning Jonathan,

For our own security and to stop us trashing the system Richard does not allow us any access to the root directory of our website(s)

One option would be to use the google site verification field within Configuration-->Site because I think once google has verified the site it does not use this again but I could be wrong!

Therefore my preferred method of verification would be to add a Meta Tag. Select this option within MSN Webmaster Tools and it gives you a line of code. Copy this and in Bluepark go into Content-->Page Manager and Click on your Home Page (index.html) then Click the Optional Code Tab and paste the msn validation code into Head Section (Developers)

Hope this helps?

This is correct, there are two ways of verifying your site. Please use the method of installing a line of code in the HEAD section of your homepage.

Thanks Dave/Rich, applied the meta tag and our site has been verified. Now I find out that our site has to be 'evaluated' by microsoft before they will allow me to add a product feed. Looks like this feature is in beta and its all a catch up with google excercise - so will wait and see, who knows it might be good!
