Hi

Following feedback from a couple of customers (who might be a bit slow!) i am thinking of setting up a page with an A-Z listing of products

i.e. Roary the Racing Car Partyware
Simpsons Partyware

etc etc, that link to the relevant pages.

The couple of customers have mentioned that they couldn't find what they were looking for quickly enough! I did suggest that they use the "search" facility but they weren't too impressed with that suggestion!?!

Is it a good idea to set up an A-Z type page or not?

Also if I do links to each page is that going to cause any problems with google etc???

I think have simplified the split of childrens partyware the best I can with a section for younger children, a section for boys and a section for girls! but then what do I know!!!!

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Karen

The page with links won't be a problem as far as Google is concerned. Internal links are actually viewed as a positive thing.

The bigger problem with taking this approach is the maintenance. Every time you change a product name/url, remove a product, or introduce a new product you are going to have to remember to update your links. If your site has a lot of broken links, this isn't viewed very positively by Google.

Could you not just create a Category called A-Z listing, then include all the products you want listed in this category (default the sequence to product description)? There is already a flag you can set to include all products automatically, so that you don't have to manually add all your items, but this may include stuff you don't really want in the list.

The downside to this is that it's not a straight Index list, because the pictures are displayed. Maybe someone else has a better solution?

The other thing is the Site Map, which you can link to from your main menu, which has a list of all products (www.yourdomain.co.uk/sitemap.html (http://www.yourdomain.co.uk/sitemap.html))

Hi Pete

Thanks for the info. I'll have a think about the options and add it to my ever growing "to do" list. I am currently listing halloween products (How sad am I!)

Thanks
Karen

We're currently sorting the Christmas products as we always have customers asking for them once September arrives. I much prefered it when you didn't see anything Christmassy on sale until well after October Half Term. If you leave it that late now, all the best stock is gone! Oh dear, I'm sounding old now - and I'm only 28!

Am just making a comment as a user based on other websites I come across that provide A-Z lists. The downside is trying to guess what something has been listed under, eg is 'Simpsons Partyware' under S or P, or both. There have been a number of times I haven't been able to find what I want from an A-Z list because someone else's descriptive thinking is different to mine.

So am just saying if you go ahead some careful thought to how it is arranged is required, and maybe a good size note next to it advising people to use the search box too.
