View Full Version : All Category Brand Filter URL
Hi,
Is it possible to have a url which filters all products in a single brand regardless their category? If so, what format would it be?
Thanks,
Andy
Yes, it's possible - you need to use the search facility to achieve this.
I'll show you an example of the format with a local URL:
[domain-name]/search/for/-/in/0/brand/[#]/
You need to replace [#] with the brand ID, the number stored in your database. You can find this out by going to the Brand Editor and looking at the Address Bar of your browser:
brand-editor.php?object=1
The "object" is the brand ID, 1 in this case.
Here is an example on Demopark.co.uk for the Sony brand (brand ID 24):
http://www.demopark.co.uk/search/for/-/in/0/brand/24/
Once again, have a look at the Address Bar to see what's going on.

I am just setting our store and it is still in the demo mode - is there a way that I can create a link to a particular brand page at this stage, or do I need to wait until the site is live?
Thanks
Arabella
do you mean a link from outside to the brand page, at the moment you dont have a url, you have a bpxx.betapark.co.uk
if you do link to a brand page there is a chance that you will have people browsing your site that is unfinished and see things that you may not want viewed?

It will work on a Beta site. You don't need to prefix it with your website name (http://www ... ) as its internal. Then its transferable when you go live without it affecting the top level part of the URL.
If hyperlinking, the editor will give you a drop down of internal pages if the one you want to link to exists.
There is also another way of achieving the links ... see this thread where you create your own pages and in the optional URL you put the code for the search.

Hope we're not confusing you here.
Hi Arabella,
As Red Devil says you don't need to prefix the url with your domain as internal links within your site don't need them. So if you create a link on your beta site you will not need to change anything when it goes live. So just hyperlink as below. Remember the 4 will just need changing to the number which corresponds with the brand in the brand editor as explained above in Rich's post.
/search/for/-/in/0/brand/4/

Thanks for the help.
Sorry, what I mean is for example:
http://bp70.betapark.co.uk/baby-carriers-and-slings.html
The text at the top lists some of the brands that we sell, I want to link to the particular brand. I know customers will be able to choose to filter via the brands but I like to make it ease for them.
When I go to the category wysiwyg, and insert the link, it does not give me the drop down of the brands, only the list of active and inactive pages plus the categories.
If I click on browse and then brands, the file is empty, even though I have created them as brands.
So if I just want a straight link to the brand page, I just find the brand number and use that? I don't have to use the domain as Rich said above: [domain-name]/search/for/-/in/0/brand/[#]/
Edit to add - when I use the drop down shop by brands, the url I get is http://bp70.betapark.co.uk/search.html it doesn't give me a brand number.
Thanks
Arabella

Yes that's right. For example find the brand no for Ergo, when editing your category page highlight the word Ergo and click on the chain icon to insert the hyperlink. This pops up another window and in the URL field enter
/search/for/-/in/0/brand/4/ (don't forget to change the number 4!)
Click OK and save the page, Job Done!

Again, not trying to confuse you ... you carry on with hyperlinking your keywords/phrases on that page to your brands.
But in Block Manager there are now standard "Search by Price" and "Search by Brand" blocks which you can add (assign using the Page Layout Manager) to any page (left/right/centre column) if you need them which will give you drop down menus.

Thanks - yes I have seen these and we will be using them. It is just that sometimes I want to be able to like to a particular brand in the text too- as I say, the more ways to help a customer find what they want, the better.

The infamous helpful BP forum has struck again.
Off to find something else to break...I mean play with - I just can;t believe how many little tweaks there are available on BP.

Great stuff I can see it working!
Bluepark just gets better and better and even us seasoned veterans keep finding things we never knew existed.
Happy playing
OK just being a nosey old boot here (Dave and Adam no comment needed) but I thought you were moving the bag site not Natural Nursery?
I wasn't joking when I said I am finding something new every day - I had a play last night and swapped some bits around that I didn't even know we could do. It is an amazing system!
Site is looking good Arabella, did you move the design yourself?
Oh and don't listen to Dave encouraging you to play, it is only so that you break things and he can play the hero by sorting them out - I can't tell you how many times he has helped me sort out the mess I've made by playing around!

As if I would comment on such a statement ;)

Nosy more than welcome! Yes and no - the bag site has been moved over (still need to finish it acutally but even half baked on BP, looking much better than it was).
Am now working on moving the NatNur over.
Jamie did the new design for the site a few months ago and I am working on moving it all over. Lisa/Moo is going to make the changes to the graphics that I need (such as the logo) bus still quite a bit for me to do.
How are you? Hope all went well.

It's looking very good! I moved over the Jamie design from EKM on the SU Wristbands site myself with a bit of tweaking from Giles (White ****** who does fabulous designs!).
I'm fine, they didn't manage to zap it so may need to do the whole thing again but at least it is over and done with for now.
