Optional code/developers

I feel I may be missing out on some useful tricks regarding the optional code which can be placed within many pages. Perhaps my curiousity has got the better of me but can you give a couple of examples of what can be achieved using this function?

I know you previously mentioned it could contain javascript to pull in content and display from another source.

Perhaps you had something im mind when you created the function?
