We've had a customer from the Channel Islands place an order, putting their country as UK (not Jersey) and then asking retrospectively about getting the VAT back. I tried to go into the order editor remote control and change their country from UK-->Jersey and resubmit but the VAT is staying on. Can this be changed via order editor?

Please send me an email with the order number in question, and I'll take a look. Thanks.

Just to confirm the content of my email, this will now work as expected. :)

If we have a shipping method setup as channel islands with only countries jersey & guernsey selected how do we set the system up so it does not charge them vat?

Have items in the shopping basket as a test and have selected channel islands for delivery but it still shows the vat?

Can you not set the VAT for Jersey and Guernsey to 0% in Site > Tax Rules? Haven't tried it myself though.

Hi

We have Channel Islands as shipping method UK but in tax rules they are set to 0% VAT. It seems to work for us.

They have to also have their COUNTRY selected as Guernsey or Jersey (not UK). Not sure if you've tried this already?

What I am trying to do is for the vat to show as zero in the shopping basket once they select channel islands before they click checkout.

Have created the shipping method and got jersey & guernsey as countries. Both of these are set to zero in the tax rules!

I've got a feeling that it won't do that until checkout is started because if shipping country was changed, then tax might apply. It has to know that shipping will also be to Jersey / Guernsey to be VAT free.

Hi Dave

Sorry if I have confused things, but we do ship to the Channel Islands and don't have a problem. We have Guernsey and Jersey set up in the shipping manager as UK because the Royal Mail charge the same as they do for mainland but in the tax section we have all our VAT countries in the EU... because CI are not in the EU they come up with 0% VAT. It's a long time since I set it up so I could have missed something, and I know our very first CI order was a problem but since then its worked fine with settings as described.

Bye for now
Gill

VAT is not linked to shipping methods. If you have a standard EU setup, VAT will not be charged to Jersey of Guernsey as they are not EU regions. VAT will be removed after they select their country on the first page of the checkout process. Shipping methods, regardless of their name or country designations, do not affect VAT charges.
