View Full Version : Splitting orders with different stock availibilities

I've had an idea - we have lots of customers order a mixture of items with different stock availibilities and then expect the in-stock part of their order to be despatched straight away. Our terms are that we normally ship the whole order together once everything is in stock, as the postage price is calculated on the weight of the complete order and splitting it often incurrs additional postal costs at our end.
So.... I was wondering, is there any chance of the customer having the option at checkout to either have their order shipped together once everything is in stock, or choose to have it split into two separate orders - one with the in-stock items, and the other with the out-of-stock items in. Shipping on each order would then be calculated on the weight of the items in each of the "new" orders.

I'm guessing that this would be very tricky to do but thought it was worth asking the question!

This is being considered for the future, it's something which Amazon has always done.

We are a new user on Blue Park and generally very pleased with the system but Part Shipment is an area where we are very concerned.

Because we supply consumables across massive numbers of SKUs it is very comon not to have everthing the orderer wants but they are keen we ship what we can asap. Obviously from our cashflow point of view we need to invoice for what we ship when we ship it.(Our account customers are on normal 21 day terms).

I am keen to see whether other users also need to have a facility to part ship and raise an invoice for the goods shipped (only) straightaway.

One of the main problems here as I have experienced it is that you can only request monies once against a payment authorisation.

If the customer purchases with a credit card for £100, for example, we do not take their money immediately, and the authorisation stays against their account (for a time). Once we request money against that authorisation, it is closed. So if we request only £50, we cannot come back and take the remaining £50 at a later date. This causes us problems, as our terms are only to take the money when we ship, which makes part shipments impossible unless we take the whole amount, thus breaking our terms.

So what I'm saying in a rambling way is that part shipments and additional shipping charges are never going to work until multiple drawing against a single authorisation is enabled, and I'm not sure that's something Bluepark can do anything about, as I think it's a banking issue...?

I think Dudley is referring to his credit account customers and not those that pay by credit card.

The way we handle this is to send account customers invoices from our accounts package

:o

I would still like a way around the multiple draw-downs on a credit authorisation, though.

Pete, which processor do you use? We use Protx and can take multiple payments. We used to do it a lot although less so these days.

We use PayPal Merchant Pro, which could be the problem. I have logged a change request with them, so I expect then to make the mod any day now...(not)
