Remote access

I was recently introduced to www.logmein.com (http://www.logmein.com) to checkout their remote access programme.

It's by far the most comprehensive I've come across and works amazingly well and it's free.

Just wanted to let people know and to also find out from any users if there are any known problems.

I used to use Radmin but this is streets ahead.

We used to suffer on remote access because we don't have a fixed IP and if ever the line dropped we had to then reset the IP but of course couldn't do that until we had access to the main computer which is a bit difficult if you are 400 miles away for instance.

Logmein allows access from any remote computer and updates IP addresses automatically if a line is dropped.

Yea, I have been using Logmein for the past couple of years. I network with my offices at ICUK and with my son in Germany..... It has also come in handy for fixing my daughters problems when she is at Winchester Uni :rolleyes: and over cooked her laptop. So as remote go... well recommended

Thanks for this Mike. I have been looking fo rsomething like this for a while and had given up!

Used this over Christmas in the US to run the site and forward some orders to a company that drop ships for us and it was fantastic.

Now I use it daily to access files at home when Im at the office.

I recommend it to all.

When I am out and about I use my iPhone for sending/receiving e-mails, processing orders and browsing/replying to threads on this forum.

It's very rare I need access to my PC but sometimes it would be useful. I notice logmein have released an application for the iPhone

Maybe of interest to some and certainly saves on the cost and hassle of taking a laptop with you when you are away for long weekends and days out!

I have just installed the Logmein app for the iphone and its quite scary (in a good way)!

I cannot imagine doing too much on it as scrolling round a 24" monitor on an iphone screen takes a lot of getting used to. In emergencies whilst away from the office its very useful.

It does work as it says!

Not installed it yet but hope to shortly. I see it being useful for getting stuff off the PC when I am out and during holidays/weekends away. For example if I need a word document or excel spreadsheet.

Out of interest do you know if you can use the iPhone with a pocket printer? Could be very useful so I can print orders off instead of writing them down!

Whilst Logmein allows remote access to remote pc - that's it. You can only print to printers connected to the remote pc. I have not found a way of printing direct from the iPhone yet!
