View Full Version : Drop shipping
Hi,
We are just starting to use a dropshipper for one of our products as it is a largeish item and storage is an issue at present. I just wondered if we should put somewhere that this item will not come direct from us? Your thoughts would be appriciated.
Thanks
Kate
Hi
I would not tell customers that the item is shipping from somewhere else. Ask yourself, do they need to know and does it matter to them... the answer is no in both cases, providing their order arrives on time and safely then that is all that matters. Telling customers more than they need to know is usually counter productive.

We use drop-shippers for a couple of our ranges, and all we say is that their order may be delivered in more than one shipment, if their order is a mix of stock and drop-ship items. Otherwise we don't say anything.
I agree with Gill & Pete that there is no need to tell customers certain products maybe dispatched direct from your supplier.
However, you may want to have something in your returns policy saying all returns must be approved prior to returning the goods. This will then give you the option of getting the customer to send goods back to your supplier instead of you.
Having said that I find customers don't read half the stuff on the website anyway whether it be delivery, terms and conditions but at least you can refer them to it when necessary.
We had a customer return a toner last week. We were not expecting it and the manufacturers box had been opened, the air-sealed packaging had been opened, the retaining clip/film had been removed and they had clearly tried to put it in the printer and then realized they had ordered the wrong product. No letter just a one page print from our website of the product they want saying "Send This One"
Customers....don't you just love em
Hi Dave,
You're right - they don't read half the stuff we put up on the site to help them!
Looks like another lovely spring day in Cornwall :)
Cheers

Thanks for the replys, hadn't thought about putting something about orders being dispatched seperately, will add that to my things to do!
