View Full Version : Marketing to existing customers

Hi
This is just a thought, not sure if it is technically possible (Rich?) or even if anyone would think it worthwhile.

From time to time we notice a series of repeat visits from an existing customer that do not result in a purchase. It is reasonable to think that they are looking for something they cannot find.

We've got one this week, that has visited several times but not bought anything so we have sent him a quick email, welcoming him as a return visitor and asking if he is looking for something in particular that we can help with. Now my thought was... would it be possible to automate this, so that if an existing customer visited a site several times within a short period without purchasing, an automatic "can we help you" email was generated.

What do you think?

Cheers

hmmm, interesting one this, because altho they may like to have the assistance, they haven' actually "asked" for it.

If they wanted help, I'm sure they would contact you.

I like to browse phone shops to see the latest models that are out etc, and I find it really annoying when you can't pay them a visit without someone askin me if I need help. Just my personal opinion on it really, but I'd tend to let the customer roam.

Hi Gill,

I have to agree with David and don't think this would be a good idea. In fact it might do the opposite and drive people away from your website.

PS Welcome back to the Forum David :)

I agree that I personally (as a shopper) would find it irriatating if I got one of these emails. If I need help, I'll ask. Most internet shoppers browse frequently without buying anything - I do it all the time with a cup of tea and probably only make purchases now and again.

Plus, I think some cautious people would be "freaked out" to think that the site owner could see when they've been visiting the site and how often etc.

Hi all - thanks for feedback. I guess, from the universal response, that it was not one of my better ideas :o
