Site Map shows up first on Google

Whenever I test search for our products on Google, more often than not it is our Site Map link that is returned, before our item pages, which is not the best view of our company.

Any thoughts on why this is, and what to do to promote the product page over the Site Map?

Ths sitemap is probably ranking fairly highly because it's considered an authority page for your site.

Sitemaps are a very good thing as they present the quickest path to all of the pages on your site. The pages you're wanting to rank more highly will probably climb the rankings in time. Google positions are ever changing.
