What is the best way to take telephone orders?

I use protx and take the payment via Protx.

Separately I log in as the user after creating an account. However i need to make that account a credit account to make the order as otherwise i need to enter card details via the front end which is not possbile with 3d secure.

You then of course need to remember to remove the credit account!

Just wondered if this is the neatest way?

The best way to do this is to use the Remote Control feature. If the user doesn't already exist, create them via the User Manager/Editor. Click the Remote Control icon to launch the site - with you signed in as the user. Add the products(s) and follow the checkout procedure.

Recognising that 3D Secure can get in the way of this process, there is now a Disable 3D Secure checkbox on the Payment Information screen when you're using Remote Control (needless to say, normal users do NOT see this!). Simply check the box to bypass the 3D Secure process. However, do bear in mind that any protection offered by 3D Secure will not be attributed to that transaction.

You should be careful when putting customer credit card details in via the "front end" even if using the remote control feature as this is not recognised as a MOTO (mail order / telephone order) transaction and some merchant account providers would not look favourably on using in this way (ours would not allow it - we're only allowed to process MOTO orders via the Protx "VSP Terminal" on the Protx website). Orders made via the site (VSP Direct / VSP Form) appear to have been put through by the customer themselves and are seen as normal e-commerce transactions. That said, I guess you'd only be caught out if there was a problem which is unlikely.
We get round it by logging in as the customer (via remote control), then when you get to the stage of the checkout where you'd enter credit card details, go back into the admin console, click on orders--> orders in progress and next to the order you're currently putting through, click on the little "clipboard" icon on the right hand side. This completes the order, marking it as paid and will include the correct payment method on the invoice.

Don't think this will help you particularly however I know Paypal Payments Pro has a gateway on their site for taking telephone orders.
