Default How to set up discount of "Spend £X, get product y free"?

    Hi

I'm trying to work out to offer a product for free, when the customer spends an amount of £X.

This will (hopefully) be a recurring type of promotion as we want to offer customers different freebies depending on how much they spend. In the first instance, I want to set it so that, once a customer spends £60 with us, they are entitled to a free canvas belt (worth £9). The canvas belt can also be bought seperately on the site as well.

Will it be possible to associate a discount code with this or will it be an automated feature where no code is necessary? The discount code will be easier as can post that elsewhere on the net for advertising purposes

    Thanks in advance
    Sumit

Oh btw I forgot to mention, the belts come in different colours, each with it's own SKU!

I'm not sure if there's a way of doing it with products with different skus but there might be a workaround if you can make them all one product and then have their colours as variants. That way you can keep their different SKUs.

I've been playing with this feature this week so have a basic grasp of it (forgive if it's not quite right though) have a try of this:

Go to Discount Manager, add new discount & make sure you add the following:

    Properties Tab
Style - define qty based discount
Pricing code - all(global discount) - presuming they can spend £60 on anything, rather than specific items
    Threshold type - value
    Discount type - value
Free product SKU - add the product you'll be giving away as free.
Fill out the rest according to your preference (the coupon code box will make this work only if the user adds the code at the checkout)

    Thresholds Tab
Start the threshold from £60 and keep discount as £0

I've tried if out on my site using a product with a colour variant and it worked so fingers crossed if will for you to. Obviously the best thing is to try it out until you have cracked it but hopefully this points you in the right direction.

    Thanks Stix

That worked. I'll have to manually edit the stock quantities of each belt, but should be ok for a while!
