It could be a number of things. Is your chekout process clear and simple? Are your postage charges high? Do you have an SSL certificate to make the registration/checkout pages secure? Do you allow guest checkout? Or perhaps as you say, its just people trying out your site.
Hi
Dont have SSL yet, working on that, only charge £1.50 for UK delivery, yes we allow guest checkout, waiting on secure trading as we only have paypal
I was going to add, if the abandoned baskets represent only a small amount of your orders then perhaps it is not a problem.
Just tried the checkout and it looks fine. I was a bit confused with the free shipping up sell message that said "Free UK delivery Until Midnight 10.04.12" - that was yesterday. What about today's customers wanting free shipping?
You've also got "google-site-verification: google6f1a9695b6dfd3b9.html" at the top of your pages (above the header). I think you've put this in the wrong settings box.
Finally, if you have Google Analytics, look at your bounced rate and which (exit) pages people leave the site on and see if you can improve those pages. That may help sales.
