Default Facebook ads and Google Analytics

I have been a bit slow to using Google Analytics. Never really looked at it. But I am starting a Facebook ad campaign so am keen to find out how much traffic it drives to my site and if possible how much of that traffic converts into actual sales. Is Google Analytics the way to do this? Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Thank you.

Facebook has a reporting facility, we used to get reports on it sent weekly by email, haven't seen them for a while, but don't use Facebook that much either!

Google analytics will show you where all your traffic is coming from, keywords, direct v returning customers, landing pages, campaigns and so so much more....
    definitely a tool to use.

Thank you. I will look a bit deeper into Google Analytics. I suppose I can only get actual slaes info from my BP admin though can I? I specifically mean how many actual sales originated from a facebook ad?

Google Analytics can track sales from any advertising campaign, including Facebook. If you use Google Adwords you can set Analytics up so that it can show which sales came from which keyword, including sales figures (number of sales plus value)
Definitely worth using Analytics for any Ad. campaign Without it you won't know how successful that campaign has been.
In my opinion Google Analytics is a must-have for any ecommerce website.

    Hope that helps!

Thank you. So do I automatically just find this info on Google Analytics i.e. sales that my facebook campaign has generated? Or do I have to get something special up?

Sign up to analytics, you answer a few questions in profile set-up it asks (amongst other things ) if it is an e-commerce site'yes' you get a code, add this code to the BP config>site that automatically then tracks the BP site. It takes a day or so to see the results, when you see some results in GA, then look deep into it, you'll find just about all you need to track ever aspect of your site. also where you need to improve etc., even tracks different versions of the same landing page to see what works best.

Your be able to see facebook visits (all visits) and where what sales came from.

    Lots more learning ......

Analytics should definitely give you the info you need. In terms of tracking your sales and where they came from, do you have any Goal/conversion tracking set up on Analytics?

Hi Melanie, no I don't have anything like that set up. I would like to specifically know how many sales my facebook ads actually generate. Actually just an overview of sales and where they came from (source) is all I am really looking for but I can't seem to find that info.
