Prevent Shipping of Certain product to Certain countries

We are not legally allowed to sell some of our products to some countries due to licensing agreements we have with distributors in those countries. Is there a 'nice' way of restricting shipping of those products to those countries?

At the moment we give the restricted products a separate shipping code and exclude that from our shipping methods but the user gets a message that "The delivery method you have specified is invalid for your location", which confuses the customer as they can't actually select a correct method.

Any ideas?

You could change the message the customer sees to something more meaningful in the language manager. Something that tells them you cannot ship the product to their country due to licensing agreements.

Changing the message would apply to all shipping methods where a destination country was invalid. I would suggest you put a general message in the additional content field for that particular product so it shows on the product page. If you use the editor, you can make the text "red" so it stands out. Also, mention it on your delivery information page if you've got one.
