Who / what is this?

For the last 5 days I've had a "visitor" from ec2-50-16-25-54.compute-1.amazonaws.com that is going through the process of adding all my stock to their basket.

I presume it's a bot but I've heard bad things about amazonaws so am not sure if it is dangerous or just plain irritating. If I block it, will I lose out on some listing somewhere?

I would start by banning the IP address(es). They are just using up your bandwidth.

Site / Configuration / Site - IP addresses to ban. Enter 1 IP address per line.

I rang Rich about this during the week, this one was adding to basket like nobody's business. I banned the IP address. Whatever it is it doesn't sound good does it having read through that thread!

Thanks for the info. I've banned the address but it's still on there so presume they'll be banned once they've actually left the site and try to return. Now I've read that thread, I'm really annoyed with amazon!

Yes next time they try to enter the site they'll be blocked. Keep an eye out for other IP addresses that they may use and ban them as well. Eventually they'll get the message.

I banned them a couple of weeks ago after spending 8 hours on the site.

Do you know if the :

amazonaws.com

works on BP, if i put it in the IPdomains to ban box?

That won't work as it's the hostname. We don't perform hostname lookups for normal page views as they take too long and would slow down the browsing of the site.

Just banned this pesky little begger on all of our sites! It's currently on one of them with 811 items in the basket!
