Default Facebook Share = discount applied to basket

    Hi Guys,

I saw that Handlehub have a really nice feature in their shopping basket where if the user shares that they use your site, they get a discount applied to the basket.

    http://www.handlehub.co.uk/index/action/basket/

I asked Shaun from Handlehub about it and he said:

"we setup a new discount code as "fbshare" and set requires FB share as "Yes, Post General Message".

The qualifying threshold was setup as percentages and then added an upsell message of "Get a 1% Discount Just For Sharing Us On Your Facebook Profile!" and I think that was it - hope it helps"

I've tried to follow these instructions but nowhere can I find an option called 'Requires Facebook Share'.

Can anybody advise where this is? Or why it may not be available on my 'Discount Editor' ?

    Many Thanks,
    -Set

You need to put your Facebook ID in Configuration > Site Options before the facebook share function will show in Discount Manager

You need to be on business or enterprise park to have this feature. It is not available on retail park. For full list of features in each package please see here

I'm on the business package. I got it appearing in my shopping basket but when I click on it and I just get a message from Facebook saying 'An error occurred'.

I think possibly I have something incorrect in the Facebook ID text box.

What have you guys entered on for your Facebook ID's on the Configuration-Site Options Tab? Did you enter a URL, did you create an facebook app or enter some numeric code?

    Many Thanks,
    -S

I entered the ID nothing else. I assumed that you didn't have to anything else on the fb side of things. Though having checked mine is coming up as "an error occurred, please try later".

If you click on help when on the configuration page where you enter your fb ID, it tells you what to do in fb to create an app. Most of what fb went on about didn't make sense, but BPs instructions are more straight forward. Create an app. Add your company/site name and then click on the bit below and add your website. Set to live and that seems to make it work

    Default Great idea

This is a really great idea as almost everybody uses Facebook, so it reaches out to far more people! Would you say that social media has completely changed the ecommerce marketing industry? I'd love to see some data on that if anybody can point me in that direction. I'm running a piece with http://www.sparkecommerce.com and I'm sure they'll find my results extremely useful!
