    Default Couriers

We currently have an account with Fedex but they are so antiquated in that they don't send text alerts, or tracking alerts to customers unlike many of the other couriers. Although we occasionally use Parcel2Go and Transglobal and other re-sellers we want a direct set up with a courier like we have with Fedex. We are looking into DPD and others and we were thinking of trying APC Overnight (Streetwise Couriers) who seem to have good prices compared to many of the other well known couriers and we wondered if anyone has any experience of them?

    Thanks for your time.

Try DPD Local, formerly Interlink Express. They have exactly the same service as DPD but slightly cheaper.

To be fair they have been very good since we switched over and A/C manager is quick to deal with any queries. Let me know if you need his contact details.

Hi Shaun thanks for that, I've just check DPD Local, they are 8.99 inc vat for 5kg with one dimension not more than 16cm (next day). We are paying 7.80 inc vat for a 2 to 3 day service and 9.50 for a next day service (both services up to 25kg with a max size 50x50x50cm) but no pre-delivery or tracking texts to customers etc.

APC seem to be good value and even cheaper than we are paying with Fedex and they offer some pre delivery texts and next day. Just wondered if anyone is using them and find them good or not.

    Thanks

I've been using APC for 5-6 years now and haven't had any major problems with them, just the odd little niggle that you'll get anywhere.

As with all couriers they are only as good as the worst member of staff/depot!

Just had a leaflet this week from FedEx about their new Delivery Manager, which says

"FedEx Delivery Manager sends interactive pre-delivery notification to your residential customers via SMS or email to give them more control "

Looks like it's only residential customers , say you have to leave the company name section blank, may not send SMS or emails to business customers (bit of a bummer)

We have not used them for over a year since they updated their website, made it less user friendly, we were over charged on one order and the next they failed to pick on the next, so stopped using them.

That's interesting as my area manager said it was work in progress when I asked a couple of days ago.

We use DPD, and pay 4.60 per parcel, next day delivery, with all the SMS notifications etc., they did offer me 4 if I could increase my send total further.

That's upto 30kg with one side no more than 60cm I believe.

You need to push the prices as much as possible.

my average weight is 120 grams, and only about 17,000 per year, as I use special delivery and royal mail signed for the rest, which is more than I send with DPD.

Thanks for sharing that, you are obviously sending quite a large quantity. 120g is very light and we would send that weight from the post office as we only get a small amount of them. Our parcels are much heavier 3 to 5 kilo and a lot more. APC are 3.65 for 1kg bag and 4.45 for 5kg, then 6.25 up to 20kg and then .26p per kilo thereafter (VAT and 5% fuel surcharge to be added) with no minimum send and all on a next day by 4pm. I think its a good deal for those not sending in massive quantities.

also bear in mind I have had quotes from UK Mail, and DX both of which was cheaper, but didn't offer over seas at a good rate, which again I only pay 9 something with DPD to USA, Canada and AUS.

the way I get good rates is to keep pushing the prices when my volume goes up, and everytime I get a new quote from another courier take it to dpd and say I'm going to leave and swap.

Hi i think its similar to yours, as I said you need to add vat and fuel surcharge on to the prices I gave in my earlier post so including those costs it makes them 4.59 for 1kg and 5.60 for the 5kg pack including everything. I think that APC are owned by various regional franchise type businesses although not in the normal sense of a franchise and perhaps there is a little difference because of that, but our prices are very similar to yours.
