Thumbs up Feature request - add users to groups depending on what they purchase?

I notice that there are "groups" in BP, and you can add users manually to a group in the user section, and also use these groups for sending newsletters.

On our website there are several product ranges:

    Star Wars Legion
    Star Wars X-Wing
    Star Wars Rebellion
    Star Wars Imperial Assault
    Star Wars Armada

Given these distinct and non compatible product ranges it would be really useful to be able to send newsletters to specific groups based on what they have purchased. It would be no use sending a newsletter on new / pre-release Star Wars Legion products to someone that only bought Star Wars X-Wing products for example.

So is there any way to automatically add users to specific groups depending on what they have purchased?

If not could we request that as a feature please?

Perhaps there could be a box on the properties tab for each product where you can select a group to add users to if they purchase that product - it could be set to "none" by default so it doesn't impact anyone that doesn't use it.

Then, after the checkout phase, when the order is confirmed, BP would just need to check if the user is in the appropriate group and if not then add them.

If they order two different things (some people do play more than one type of games, so we do get mixed orders) and each product places them in a different group then that's fine. And if they order multiple products from the same range, with each one set to add them to the group then it would only add them once obviously (and only if they weren't already in it).

Seems like this would be useful for any BP website that has distinct product ranges, and uses the newsletter feature.

We'd find this useful as well. We sell subscriptions to resources for teachers and have to manually assign each purchaser to the User Group that allows them to access the resources. Having this automatic when they buy the subscription product would be so much better.

Would it be possible for the BP team to reply to this type of post, just to confirm they've seen it and added it to a list of possible new features somewhere (or just dismiss it outright)?

These feature requests pop up on the forum occasionally, and then there are lots of "me too" replies, and then nothing ever seems to get done.

So a "we've seen it and we'll think about it" post would be useful. Or maybe there should be a more formal feature request procedure?

"Or maybe there should be a more formal feature request procedure?"

Totally agree - I've been confused for years as to whether suggestions are logged by BP or not, their status, whether any action is planned, etc. I don't think I'm the only one!
There was talk of a separate section on this forum for feature requests. Some clarity is needed IMHO.

    Update from BP -

As for this particularfeature suggestion, there isn't any expressed intention to implement thisfeature currently, no.
Guess we just have to do it the time consuming manual way. Or just not bother with their newsletter system.

Would LOVE this! We have products that only release yearly or quarterly. It would be so useful to have people added to a user group or email group based on purchases of certain products so that we can inform them that a new one is out.

Well unfortunately they said they're not doing it. So that sucks.

Apparently not enough interest, but then there is no official way to express an interest in stuff, nor a list of potential stuff to show an interest in!
