    Default Facebook Link Image Assistance

    Hi All

    I am hoping someone can help me, as part of out marketing/promotion I have a Facebook page which I am trying to post to quite regularly.

    However, everytime I post a link to the website on Facebook, it always comes back with the same thumbnail picture (which is one of the category buttons) this isn't helpful.

    I have seen multiple answers to this, none of which seem to make sense (unless I am over thinking it) any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

    Have you tried pasting the link into here first? https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/sharing/

    Thanks Ian

    It comes up with these 2 errors

    The 'og:image' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.

    The following required properties are missing: og:url, og:type, og:title, og:image, og:description, fb:app_id

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Hopefully this helps, create the image you wish to use (we use the size 1200 wide x 457 high) then save it in file manager. Place the code below in the head section of the template manager and alter the sections in red to suit your own site.

    <meta name="viewport" content="width=1200">
    <meta property="og:image" content="https://Enter the location of the image you want to use" />
    <meta property="og:title" content="Enter the the tile you want visible" />
    <meta property="og:description" content="Enter your store description" />
    <meta property="og:url" content="https://Enter you web address">

    Thanks NathanC

    Unfortunately this doesn't appear to work, unless I have got it filled out wrong

    Hi
    Strange works fine for us. Add www. to your address for the image link (not sure if that will make a difference). Did you place the code in the head section on its own?
    Bit more info on this link -https://developers.facebook.com/docs...ng/webmasters/

    Thanks

    Hi Nathan

    I already have quite a bit in the head section....perhaps this is why it doesn't work, although a little ridiculous as some stuff needs to be in the head section!

    Thanks anyway!

    Hi Tim

    I have had a go at sending a link on an iphone from your site and the image and wording you have set for the Facebook link works it just takes a few moments to change from your standard thumbnail. Also sorry on the previous reply i did not mean for the code to be on it's own in the header section, i mean't is it on it's own and not mixed in with anything else in the header section.

    Thanks

    Hi Nathan

    Sorry for the delay in replying.

    Thank you so much for your help with this!

    Yes, it does appear to work now, although I found several issues, including BP or Facebook (not sure which) doesn't seem to like jpegs so changed the image and code to a png.

    Also, if you have different Meta Data in the "Tags" Tab on Category>Your Category Name>Tags it doesn't like that either, so the data needs to be the same in the "Tag" tab as it is in the code,

    Other than that all good

    Thanks again
