Default Adding a forum to BP website

I've found various answers to this on the forum, going back many years, but they all point to the same thread that suggested asking Rich to add vbulletin to the website, but then this was posted...

So what is the current solution, presumably hosted elsewhere, that people are using?

The quote from Richard still stands, I'm afraid. You will need to host your own forum on a separate web space & domain.

Why don't you set it up on a sub-domain?

vbulletin? that was only mentioned as it was the solution BP used when they used to have that option.

I just want to know what other people are using, that might be better or cheaper or easier. Or if they are using vbulletin how to they have it configured?
